Project Background and Description
CESC Limited as a premier organization in electricity Distribution and Generation in India embraced IT solutions since long. The Company has developed its in-house IT infrastructure and applications to suit its business requirements which has grown many folds over the years. Subsequently, to ensure Business Continuity it has established its own on-premise Data Centre (DC) and Disaster Recovery Centre (DR).
With the advent of Cloud Computing, concept which is gaining importance in the business world, CESC, as an agile organization, envisages to migrate some of its GIS applications in the cloud infra which will substantially reduce the capital expenditure.
CESC is at present serving around 34 lakh consumers in and around Kolkata. It is in the process of indexing the Consumers of one of its ten Districts having around 3.5 lakh consumers spread within an area of 41.7 sq.km. (approx.) as an initial phase of the work. The Consumer Indexing job involves Physical Survey with the help of Android based Tab and land base drawings followed by digitization of different electrical features like DTR, Pillar box, overhead pole, overhead conductors & cables, underground cables and consumers’ house service appurtenances.
All such data with geospatial reference is stored in MySQL and PostgreSQL databases for GIS (Geographical Information System) mapping and is at present stored in CESC on-premise Data Centre.
Project Scope
1. Assess, design and implement suitable infrastructure to host the applications and databases in a cloud environment.
2. There will be 3 High Available Application Servers located in Multi-Available Zones .
3. In addition, there will be 2 Relational Database Services for MySQL and PostgreSQL databases with High availability multi-zone cluster and Amazon RDS Read Replicas.
4. There should be a provision of storing Image files captured for different features during field survey.
5. Design shall be High availability multi- zone cluster with Load balancer to distribute the load between servers complying the DC-DR Model.
6. Replication shall be available in the database servers to ensure interruption free operation of the database servers.
7. The infrastructure must be fault tolerant, secured and agile enough to cater the growth of the databases.
8. A Dashboard shall be provided with the performance indices for centralized monitoring of the setup.
9. Sufficient security shall be provided against any unauthorized access to the network. Audit Trail shall be available for the activities in the system.
